ZEARN
Zearn Math is a personalized curriculum and classroom model that meets the needs of students so all children can learn and love math. I've used Zearn in the past and it has been a huge success for all students.
Zearn Math provides rigorous content delivered in a personalized rotational model.
EPIC BOOKS!
We've started using EPIC books in class. Students can listen to an audio book or read online and gain points! This is also a great resource that students can use at home to encourage reading. www.getepic.com
USING KIND WORDS
We are working on showing respect and being kind to others. We use a compliment jar where students can compliment one another on their good behavior. Students wrote down and shared times their feelings were hurt and we discussed possible solutions.
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN CLASS?
Week One
This week we have been working on a lot of team building and social-emotional development and expectations. We created our classroom rules and have discussed some basic classroom procedures like Turn and Talk, partner and group work, etc.

Using English! One of the biggest challenges I am noticing with the kids is speaking English during class. A lot of children default to Spanish so we are really working on encouraging everyone to use determination to speak more English.

Marshmallow Challenge! Students worked in teams today to create a freestanding structure that could hold up a marshmallow. They were cooperative and had to communicate and share work to critically think throughout the process. Very fun!
